Why should a customer buy from you? the story of Steven Yang, the founder of Anker

Why should a customer buy from you? 🔌📱

Many sellers offer the same phone charger, the same brand, and the same price.

So, what helps a customer choose?

In this episode of Elite Talks, Amir Marashi shares the story of Steven Yang, the founder of Anker.

Yang left Google and started Anker in 2011. Bloomberg reported that he began with less than US$1 million, using his own money and money from his mother.

His early business focused on a simple problem: buyers wanted good laptop batteries at a fair price.

Later, Anker expanded into phone chargers, cables, and power banks.

For January–September 2026, Anker Innovations reported:
• Sales: about 26.14 billion yuan.
• Net profit attributable to shareholders: about 2.26 billion yuan.

These figures cover the whole company. They are not the company’s value or the founder’s personal wealth.

What can a small business learn?

✅ Find a problem people want to solve.
✅ Test your product.
✅ Listen to buyers.
✅ Explain your product clearly.
✅ Give people a useful reason to choose you.
✅ Count all costs before you grow.

Selling another company’s product and building your own brand are different business paths. Both need a clear reason for customers to buy.

📚 Easy Business English:
• Founder = a person who starts a business.
• Capital = money used to start or grow a business.
• Sales = money from selling products.
• Profit = money left after costs.
• Reviews = comments from buyers.
• Quality = how good a product is.
